Friend,
S.T.O.P. and local drag artists are coming together to raise awareness about how big data and technology track, out, and criminalize LGBTQIA+ folks and expression of all kinds.
Our new friend Esther, @EstherNewYork on Instagram and TikTok, just released a groundbreaking viral video in collaboration with S.T.O.P. to mark the launch our newest digital advocacy program, “Drag Against Dragnets.” Esther’s post on TikTok and Instagram has more than 500,000 views! We could describe the Esther’s genius for you, but it’s better to just watch it.
Drag Against Dragnets builds on S.TO.P.’s recent media including former intern, Derek Smith’s op-ed on fake police Grindr accounts, new reports on trans health travel surveillance and content censorship, and the work already done by queens like Esther protesting mass surveillance.
While we could already consider the campaign a resounding success, Drag Against Dragnets isn’t over yet! Other performers are working on their own videos, and we’re still looking for new creative collaborators. Please get in touch with me, Evan Enzer at evan@stopspying.org, if you’re interested in volunteering or know any fierce drag performers, MUA’s, designers, or others in the community who want to stand up against dragnets (and for drag).
