Another Victory Over The NYPD!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Friend,

It was already a historic moment for our country, and we just put another civil rights win in the history books. Yesterday, we forced the NYPD to end its biased “hijab ban,” which required New Yorkers to remove their religious head coverings when arrested.

For years, the NYPD forced people to undress against their will, a degrading and pointless practice. New Yorkers can get a driver’s license or a passport without taking off their head coverings, so why does the NYPD make them undress? The disturbing reason is that the NYPD fed uncovered mugshots into its facial recognition database, which it used nearly 25,000 times in the last three years. Well, no longer.

This wasn’t the Trump Administration’s doing – this was New York’s homegrown harassment. And it’s a reminder that even after last week’s election, we still have a lot of work to do at the city and state level.

This case isn’t completely over yet. The NYPD is still fighting us in court to block compensation for the thousands of people harassed under this policy. Help us keep up the fight and get justice for these New Yorkers by donating today.

With thanks,
Sam Van Doran
