We Demanded A Hearing And We Got One

Friend,

When I founded S.T.O.P. earlier this year, one of my top priorities was passing the POST Act, the NYPD surveillance bill I’ve helped champion since 2017.

I knew we might not be able to enact the law this year, but I had a clear goal: have a POST Act hearing before the end of 2019. We publicly demanded the hearing, we kept up the public pressure, and on Wednesday, that goal became a reality.

Advocates from across the city and even across the country came together to speak as one and demand NYPD surveillance oversight. The crowd was more than we could have ever hoped for, spilling out of the packed hearing room into the corridors of City Hall.  But we can’t finish this fight without your help. Please donate to our year-end drive and ensure we can enact the POST Act in 2020.

For more than two years, the NYPD has tried to use blatant fearmongering to kill the POST ACT. They’ve fought to block our hearings and water down the law, opposing any real reforms.  Well, this week we showed them that there is a political force in New York that’s more powerful than any fear tactics: you.  But we can only keep up this fight with your financial support. Please donate at whatever level you can to ensure we protect privacy in 2020.

With thanks,
