Friend,
All across the country, cities and states - including Boston, San Francisco, Portland, and Vermont - are protecting residents from facial recognition. It’s long past time for New York to do the same. On Monday, S.T.O.P. and fellow civil rights groups launched a Ban The Scan Week of Action to boost support for crucial legislation banning facial recognition and other biometric surveillance in New York City.
Through in-person visits at City Council offices and digital outreach, we’re rallying New Yorkers to call on their City Council members to sponsor two bills banning facial recognition in public accommodations and in residential buildings.
Have you reached out to your City Council member yet? Use our contact tool here and make sure your voice is heard! It only takes two minutes. You can also help spread the word by using our social media toolkit with sample posts, graphics, and key information about each bill.
We will win the fight against facial recognition and mass surveillance in our city, but we need your help. Reach out to your Council Member and demand they protect New Yorkers’ privacy today.
