Friend,
S.T.O.P. recently teamed up with the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) and the Youth Design Center (YDC) to bring the printed booklet, #UnfriendtheNYPD, to life!
#UnfriendTheNYPD is a booklet geared towards youth and young adults in New York City that explains how the police can surveil New Yorkers through their phones, offering tips on how to protect themselves.
To create the videos, YDC animation apprentices Gerard Allison and Ashley-Mae Brown gave voice and movement to Aishwarya Srivastava’s original art and design.
The videos in our series cover how the NYPD can surveil you through social media, messaging apps, and geofences:

NYPD’s violations of New Yorkers’ digital privacy are well-documented, including in their surveillance of youth and young adults. S.T.O.P. is committed to teaming up with local allies to educate our most vulnerable community members on how to best protect themselves.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to CUP and YDC for joining us in this project and sharing their expertise. Help us get the word out by sharing the videos widely on social media, adding the hashtag #UnfriendTheNYPD. If you’re interested in having S.T.O.P. host a training on #UnfriendTheNYPD in your community or at your organization, contact us here.
