Friend,
Meet us on Zoom for our Tech & Society Salon at 5:00 PM EST tomorrow!
Joined by Nicholas Fesette from Emory University, we’ll discuss the surveillance, intimidation, & criminalization tactics used against Stop Cop City organizers, activists, & allies. The movement opposes the construction of the largest police training facility in the U.S.—which is leased to the Atlanta Police Foundation. “Cop City” is a result of a significant issue in American policing. As highlighted in S.T.O.P.’s 2022 report Privatizing the Surveillance State, police foundations undermine the rule of law by providing funding in ways that violate good-government standards for city agencies and transparency standards for nonprofit organizations.
Surveillance technologies are often used to arrest protesters exercising their First Amendment rights. Make sure to protect yourself using S.T.O.P.’s guide. And to hear more about what’s happening in Atlanta, join our Tech & Society Salon tomorrow at 5:00.
