Unfriend the NYPD

Smartphone surveillance is no secret to us here at S.T.O.P. From fake social media profiles to geofence warrants that sweep up location data on thousands of people in a given location at any given time, the NYPD deploys invasive tactics to collect information straight from our smartphones.

Many New Yorkers are unaware of these dangers, which is why we’re excited to announce our pamphlet “Unfriend the NYPD” as part of the Center for Urban Pedagogy’s (CUP) Public Access Design program. For the past year, we had the pleasure of working with CUP and designer Aishwarya Srivastava to design a pamphlet for youth and young adults to learn how they can protect themselves and their communities against the NYPD’s data collection practices. And thanks to our friends at Red Hook Initiative, we were able to launch the pamphlet with the young New Yorkers they serve.
We can’t wait to share this with more New York youth and promote the ways we can fight against mass surveillance here in our city and beyond.
In solidarity,
