S.T.O.P. Events This Weekend!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Friend,

NYC’s Open Data Week officially kicks off today! S.T.O.P. is thrilled to join our city’s civic tech and open data communities in the fight for government transparency, ethical tech, and the protection of New Yorkers’ fundamental rights.

Catch our free, virtual panel this Sunday, March 12th from 1-2 PM ET! S.T.O.P. Research Director Eleni Manis and Executive Director Albert Fox Cahn will join Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and open data expert, Adrienne Schmoeker, for Ethical Open Data: Ensuring Responsibility and Privacy in Open Data Sets.
To learn more about some of the surveillance risks of open data and workshop solutions to protect New Yorkers’ privacy, register for the panel here.
But that’s not all this weekend! We’re also headed up to Albany for the SOMOS New York Conference. Moderated by NY State Senator Kristen Gonzalez and NY State Assemblymember Harvey Epstein, S.T.O.P. is excited to join an amazing group of activists for Surveillance Isn’t Safety, a panel discussing the legislative movement to make New York a surveillance sanctuary state.
If you’ll be in the Capital Region, catch the in-person discussion tomorrow morning from 9:30-10:45 AM at Empire State Plaza, Meeting Room 2.

We can’t wait to see you at one (or both!) of these events this weekend. For more information on upcoming events at S.T.O.P., click here.
With thanks,
Will Owen
Communications Director
