Unjust State Of The State

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Dear *|FNAME|*,

This week, Governor Hochul laid out her first State of the State Address since being elected governor, and the state of her priorities is alarming. Despite growing condemnation of the NYPD and other police departments around New York, Governor Hochul committed to only further supporting mass incarceration and the further expansion of big brother policing.

Of course, the move should be unsurprising for those of us who remember the governor’s surveillance brag this summer: “if you think big brother is watching…you’re absolutely right.” Even as pressure has mounted against the billions New York wastes on police surveillance, the governor has refused to admit the failure of the state’s discredited experiment with mass surveillance and mass incarceration.

Luckily, even as the governor fails to see the obvious, a growing number of legislatures are joining the campaign to push back against biased and error-prone surveillance, and we’ll be sharing more details about how you can support our efforts in the coming weeks.

In solidarity,
Albert Fox Cahn
Executive Director
