View this email in your browser MEDIA ADVISORY Civil Rights Groups, Electeds Rally Against NYC Surveillance, Launch ‘Stop Surveillance Summer’ (NEW YORK, NY, 6/2/2022) – On Tuesday, June 7th at 9 AM EST the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, elected officials, civil rights groups, and Democratic clubs will rally on the steps of New York City Hall against surveillance technology, launching “Stop Surveillance Summer.”   Participants will condemn use of facial recognition, geofence warrants, subway metal detectors, and other forms of surveillance and their disproportionate impact on BIPOC, Muslim, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers. The press conference and rally come after the introduction of a new state bill that would ban fake police accounts on social media in New York and renewed pressure on the state legislature to ban geofence warrants. The event also kicks off “Stop Surveillance Summer,” a monthlong hybrid event series organized by S.T.O.P. opposing NYPD surveillance.
