We know the last few days have been hard for all of you and truly heartbreaking for more than a few.   For those of you who have lost friends and family to the COVID-19 pandemic, you have our deepest sympathies. In the face of such loss, we know that everything else can feel trivial. But we also know that the coming weeks will likely reshape our country and world for decades to come.   That’s why we’ve launched our COVID-19 microsite, cataloging how the response to COVID-19 is enabling mass surveillance, curtailing civil rights, and undermining the very rule of law. We won’t pretend that there are simple answers to this crisis, but we see unprecedented dangers to both public health and our most fundamental values.
