Evan Selinger - Scholar-in-Residence
Evan Selinger is a Professor of Philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology and an Affiliate Scholar at Northeastern University’s Center for Law, Innovation, and Creativity.
A prolific scholar, Evan’s research covers a range of ethical and legal issues concerning technological governance, particularly privacy. The Guardian selected Evan’s co-authored book, Re-Engineering Humanity, one of The Observer’s “Best Books of 2018” and one of “Thirty Books to Help Us Understand the World in 2020.” Zadie Smith told The Wall Street Journal that it was one of her favorite reads of 2019.
Evan regularly contributes to public discussions of technology. His opinion pieces have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Wired, The Atlantic, Slate, The Wall Street Journal, The Nation, and The Guardian, among other places.
Evan regularly works with civil society organizations, think tanks, and corporations to enhance policy. For the past few years, he has been a member of the Institute for Defense Analysis’s Legal, Moral, and Ethical (LME) Working Group. Dedicated to improving ethics education, Evan’s sponsored research includes being a co-PI on a major (approx. $399,000) National Science Foundation project on sustainability ethics education.
